We’ve finally gotten a sneak peek of the League of Legends World Championship 2022 anthem as hip hop star Lil Nas X performed it live during his concert in Detroit. The name of the song has been revealed to be “Starwalkin”, and the first impressions seem to be generally positive. Montero Lamar Hill, professionally known as Lil Nas X has stirred quite a conundrum in the scene in the last few days, after changing his Twitter title to the president of League of Legends. This is all a part of a publicity stunt for the collaboration between the star and Riot, which will see Lil Nas X produce “explosive musical moments, an ingenious League champion skin, and a spectacular live Worlds performance” for the League of Legends World Championship 2022.
The artist became famous with the smash hit Old Town Road featuring Billy Ray Cyrus, which earned him a Grammy Award for Song of the Year and numbers over a billion views on YouTube. Subsequent hits like Montero and Industry Baby further cemented his place as a mainstay in the hip hop scene. Apart from Starwalkin, his collaboration with Riot will also include work on the skin for the next League of Legends hero K’Sante, The Pride of Nazumah, who is due out sometime in November.
In the past, Riot has collaborated with big music industry stars on several occasions, including names such as Sting and Imagine Dragons, who, among other things, made music for the animated series Arcane. The numerous collaborations have spawned hits such as “Warriors” by Imagine Dragons and “Legends Never Die” by Against The Current among others. The large focus on the musical aspect has put League of Legends head and shoulders above other esports titles.
The Worlds 2022 anthem Starwalkin is scheduled for an official release on September 23rd. With Lil Nas X’s overall quirkiness, this only seems like a sign of things to come.
