Heading into the final match day of ESL Pro League S16’s Group D, there is plenty at stake for almost all of the teams involved. With Cloud 9 cemented at the top and Movistar Riders at rock bottom, four teams are left in Playoff contention. North American CS:GO fans have a bitter-sweet feeling regarding Team Liquid and Evil Geniuses. While Liquid had a strong start to the group, the team has put its playoff spot in jeopardy after back-to-back losses against FURIA and Eternal Fire. Evil Geniuses on the other hand have managed to keep their playoff hopes alive with two wins in a row after a disappointing start.
FURIA is in the best position out of all the teams in the race, with three victories and a matchup against EG on the final day. Eternal Fire’s chances are looking to be the slimmest considering a lot of results have to go in their favor for them to qualify further.
With four teams left in playoff contention, the last day of ESL Pro League Group D is looking poised to deliver some top-notch CS:GO.
Movistar Riders vs. Eternal Fire
Movistar Riders are looking like a shell of the team that turned heads at IEM Cologne 2022. Whether it’s the loss of SunPayus, or if their performance at Cologne was a one-off, Movistar has been purely outclassed during ESL Pro League. With nothing left to fight for apart from saving face Movistar is heading into the match as the CS:GO betting underdogs.
Eternal Fire on the other hand kept their hopes alive with a clean sweep over Team Liquid. Woxic had a monstrous series against Liquid, ending the series with a 1.83 rating.
With Movistar’s stellar teamwork completely in shambles, Eternal Fire is looking like the much stronger side. Since it’s the first match of the day, Eternal Fire still has a chance of making it through, and they will be fighting for it. In this case, we’re putting our money on Eternal Fire.
Pick: Eternal Fire
Cloud 9 vs. Team Liquid
Cloud 9 form has been incredible so far at ESL Pro League, as the Russian squad has yet to drop a map in Group D. The whole of Cloud 9 has looked like a well-oiled machine and no team has found the proper answer to their aggression. With his masterclass performances so far, Cloud 9’s sh1ro has thrown his hat into the tournament MVP conversation.
Liquid on the other hand has had a disastrous last couple of days. It’s impossible to point out a singular player to take the brunt of the blame, as every single player has had disastrous performances. Team Liquid has a lot writing on this match, but can advance even if they lose.
Looking at this match, we’ve Cloud 9 is the absolute favorite with good reason. We expect them to add another clean sweep to their tally.
Pick: Cloud 9 | To Win 2:0 |
FURIA vs. Evil Geniuses
FURIA’s form has been excellent so far in ESL Pro League as the team has racked up three wins so far in Group D. While the team’s patented aggression has worked out well so far for them, it’s KSCERATO who’s been by far the most impactful player. The only thing that’s been evidently missing is a dedicated AWPer.
Evil Geniuses have managed to turn their fortunes around, as a win against FURIA guarantees them a spot in the playoffs. The biggest adjustment EG has made so far is to their defensive play, and if they can bring it once more against FURIA, they just might have a shot.
Heading into the series, FURIA is the big favorite. But looking at Evil Geniuses’ last matches, they seem like they could put a stop to FURIA’s onslaught. We’re looking at this from a value bet perspective, as feel like the odds are much closer than they actually are.
Pick: Eternal Fire
